Jill Lesser Testifies on the ‘Role of Voluntary Agreements in the US Intellectual Property System’

Today CCI Executive Director Jill Lesser testified at the request of the Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet on the “Role of Voluntary Agreements in the US Intellectual Property System.” Other participants included Gabriel Levitt, President of PharmacyChecker.com, Randall Rothenberg, President and CEO of the Interactive Advertising Bureau and Cary Sherman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Recording Industry Association of America.

As part of her testimony, Jill addressed the importance of voluntary multi-stakeholder, market-driven solutions to address the problem of digital piracy. Specifically, Jill pointed to CCI’s own Copyright Alert System (CAS) as a model for addressing challenging technology policy issues through private sector collaboration and discussed CCI’s plans to evaluate the CAS in the future. Jill also spoke about CCI’s educational efforts currently underway, including a new curriculum on copyright for grades K-6. The curriculum, which stems from a partnership between CCI, iKeepSafe and the California School Library Association, is being piloted this school year in California.
